Hello, there! I’m Christopher, which you should have known if you saw my cute little green logo. So, let me not distract you from the following post. I hope you like it! I’d love to hear your thoughts after you’re done reading it! Enjoy!
First off, let me say: GOD IS NOT DEAD.
Our God is amazing and he is not dead. He is still moving! We see him working in this world in many different ways. But the thing is: I think we Christians are dead.
Of course, I don’t mean that we are dead physically. But I do wonder if we, the church of God, are kinda dead spiritually. How so?
I look how this world has fallen deeper into decay and I shake my head. I believe we Christians are responsible for that.
Well, evil can’t be fully eradicated. But it’s our job as Christians to show people the light. In doing so, evil can be slowly ripped away. With more people saved will mean more people working for the Lord. But have we been doing that? Have we been telling others about the Good News? Have we been doing our part politically so that evil stuff won’t rule?
Another thing is that preachers aren’t preaching on some topics that the church needs to hear. And I’m preaching right now about the fallen world we live in, the fallen nations we live in and love, and the decline of Christianity. This devotion was originally a sermon, and that sermon addressed those issues. How many sermons have you heard actually relate to this topic? Politics is not only for the weekdays, it’s for the weekends as well. God gave us the responsibility to subdue the earth and take care of it. More of this needs to come from the pulpit.
We really need to pick up on our game. The devil has a ton of helpers out there who are working effortlessly to promote sinning and godless living. Yes, this does means we have to work in order to show the world the good news. And there are so many ways for us to do our part to work to make a difference and show the world that we are different. Yes, we work to make a difference and we should look different to the world. The only way that the world will notice us is if we are different.
We Christians are responsible for the decline of America and the waning influence of Christianity in the world. Why? God has given the church the responsibility to be world changers. It says in 2nd Chronicles 7:14, “If . . . my people . . . humble themselves and pray . . . I will heal their land.”
America has fallen further and further from Christ? Why? Because the influence of Christianity has eroded. How? Dr. Jedidiah Morse, the father of the man who invented the telegraph, said that the “genuine effects of Christianity are diminished in any nation” through unbelief, corruption of its doctrines, and neglect of its institutions.
The first thing he mentioned is “unbelief.” More and more false teachers have risen up and started teaching a gospel that is not the gospel, for there is only one gospel. And others teach that there is no God and that is not true. So people fall away from God.
Christianity cannot survive in an atmosphere of unbelief. “Revival and awakening of the list is . . . the remedy to unbelief,” Mark Belies and Stephen McDowell say in their book “America’s Providential History.”
People are hungry for the truth, but when they can’t find the truth, they make up a lie and call it the truth. Let us show them the real truth. Let us evangelize.
Also, Lecrae raps in his song “Gravity,” “Somebody told me there was no such thing as truth; I said, ‘If that's the case then why should I believe you?’” There are people out there who think that there is no truth, but that is not true. Like if you look in the realm of science, there are laws deemed as truths. And also, we know that the Good News of Jesus Christ is truth.
The second factor mentioned is corruption of doctrines. And this is not the Apostle’s Creed I’m talking about. Here’s an example: we teach kids in the schools evolution. Usually if something is cheap or for free, then it’s not good quality. Kids can go to public schools for free, and those schools can be easily renamed “School Of Lies.” Not only they learn that we came from monkeys, but they also learn that 2 plus 2 equals twenty-two! Well, just kidding at that last part.
But also, humanism is around. This false doctrine says that man is his own master and that he determines what is right or wrong for himself. Huh? No, the Bible clearly defines what is right and wrong. And besides, we’d probably make everything right in our own eyes. And if we can choose what is right or wrong, then laws would be helpless to help us.
Also one doctrine that we Christians might falsely believe is that Satan rules the earth. Jesus took domain over the earth when he died on the cross! Jesus “shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil,” as the writer of Hebrews says. Satan is defeated. How can one defeated rule the earth?
Marshall Foster contrasts some points if God or the devil was ruling the earth. First, “if you see God ruling the earth:
Belies and McDowell add onto that and say, “What is the remedy for the corruption and neglect of these vital doctrines? It is the Restoration of the New Testament Church in its practical theology and Biblical reasoning and world-view.”
The third point Dr. Morse mentioned is the neglect of our institutions. Like the church has been neglecting education. It’s quite important for a church to provide education to the children who attend the church. If church leaders don’t take responsibility to provide education, then the kids will start learning wacky ideas from false teachers. That’s how Christian universities, like Harvard, became so liberal. And also, the government has taken too much freedom from us. It’s our responsibility to help those in need, not the government’s. Beliles and McDowell said, “If Christians today would tithe and give special offerings for the poor, to distribute individually or pool together with other Christians in their church, great things could happen. This must be done if we are ever going to disestablish the unbiblical welfare system today. . . . If every church in America took responsibility for just three families, then there would be no need for welfare!” (That book was written decades ago, so that stat is a little off. So the number might be five or seven today. But that’s not many at all!)
In another part of the book, they say, “Welfare states are not biblical and do not work. . . . While government money spent on welfare has increased dramatically, so has the nation’s poverty. Today, only 30 cents of each welfare dollar actually goes to meet the need of the poor. The other 70 cents is consumed by the governmental bureaucracy. . . . America has spent hundreds of billions of dollars on the fight, yet poverty is increasing.” The government is supposed to promote welfare, not give it!
In the end, “the Bible says that the family and church are the primary institutions of health, education, and welfare.”
What are some things we can do to change this mess? How can the influence of Christianity come back? Well, we as Christians have some things to do.
One of the main jobs God gave us is to share the good news of Jesus. Jesus presented to his disciples and all Christians the Great Commission, which reads in Matthew: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
The only real way to change the world is to tell everyone of the good news of salvation. That’s when people realize that they need a change and will see other areas in life where they need change.
Also, we Christians need to discover the power of healing again. People still can be healed in the name of Jesus. People think that the Holy Spirit’s gifts left us awhile ago with the apostles because people weren’t being healed. There is still power in the blood of the Lamb. People still can be healed, even of those “incurable” diseases. By saying a disease is incurable, you are making the devil more powerful than God. I believe pastors should look into this topic some more, because in the Bible times, it was to the priests that the people went to when they were looking for healing.
We need to stand up as Christians more. We are slowly losing our freedoms as the days pass by. Why? Because we aren’t doing our part, or not doing enough. It’s obvious that in the schools that the kids aren’t supposed to be Jesus Freaks. It sometimes feels like you’d get gagged if you mention Jesus outside of your home. Jesus can’t be a reason for anything anymore. But, people keep forcing their ways on us, so why can’t we, am I right?
In 2006, an American senator had this to say, “secularists are wrong when they ask believers to leave their religion at the door before entering into the public square. Frederick Douglas, Abraham Lincoln, Williams Jennings Bryant, Dorothy Day, Martin Luther King - indeed, the majority of great reformers in American history - were not only motivated by faith, but repeatedly used religious language to argue for their cause. So to say that men and women should not inject their ‘personal morality’ into public policy debates is a practical absurdity. Our law is by definition a codification of morality, much of it grounded in the Judeo-Christian tradition.”
That senator is now known as President Barak Obama. And I hear that he now believes that Christianity should now be kept inside the walls of the church. People these days.
I remember President Jimmy Carter. He claimed to be a Christian, but his tenure in office didn’t reflect that. Why? He believed his Christian beliefs and politics shouldn’t mix. He was one man in the White House and another outside of D.C. But, no, that’s now how it should be. Our faith should be the reason why we do what we do. You cannot separate Christ from any aspect of your life if you’ve asked him to rule your life.
Our schools are just so messed up. For one thing, not many of them have the initiative to learn. To go to school is one of the most important things a child could do. But they don’t wanna. And as I said above, they are teaching a theory that is not proven, but they act like it’s truth. They don’t even hint at there being other ways that the earth may have been created. The first amendment never declared freedom from religion, but freedom of religion. Even Justice William O. Douglas in 1952 said, “we find no constitutional requirement . . . for government to be hostile to religion and to throw its weight against efforts to widen the effective scope of religious influence.” This should go for not only schools, but also outside the schools.
With the legalization of gay marriages, Christians are being persecuted more and more. And it’s gonna get worse. We must stand up for what’s right and do the right thing. Standing up will not be easy, but it will be worth it in the end, right?
Listen, I’m not telling you who to vote for in the upcoming election. I’m trying to make you think. I want you to take the next election seriously. Do your homework. Pick the person whom you feel is gonna be the best person to lead the country. And abortion and homosexuality are against God’s law, so they must be against that.
I know this post is very American based. So I have a few things to highlight on other countries. Canada just elected a very liberal prime minister, and he’s gonna make a big mess. In South Korea, adultery was illegal before 2015. England legalized gay marriage a month before America did. And there’s more going on which I don’t even know!
Here, I have a question to ask us all: are we ready to give up our lives for Christ in this fallen world? Are we?
Let us be living Christians, being a light in this world and sh0ow them that we are different and that we got a savior.
We can’t be dead. What good can a good people do?
Are you willing to be guilty?
I Shall Recommend . . .
First off, I used this book by Mark A. Beliles and Stephen K. McDowell entitled “America’s Providential History.” It’s a very good book and I recommend that you read it.
Also, I mentioned that pretty much the only way our nation will change is if they will find Christ. Well, I recommend this iPhone app to you. Yes, it’s only for those with iPhones. I don’t know how it works, but it should help remind you to pray for revival. It’s called “If 7:14.”
You must check out Pat Robertson’s “Courting Disaster.” It’s an amazing book that you must read!
These are a few things I recommend. I hope that we can all come alive.
Hello again! I’m so happy you finished reading my post, and, boy, do I hope you liked it!
