Hello, there! I’m Christopher, which you should have known if you saw my cute little green logo. So, let me not distract you from the following post. I hope you like it! I’d love to hear your thoughts after you’re done reading it! Enjoy!
“The kinds of the earth take their stand . . . against the LORD . . . . The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.”
And welcome to another edition on “Laughing At The Wicked!” I am your host, Christopher 164, and we will give you another reason why you can laugh at the wicked.
Okay, honestly, I am not gonna go down that direction for a post, but I hope that through this post I will remind you of how powerful our God truly is.
As we read in Psalm 2, David notes that the wicked want to get rid of the “chains” God has placed on them. They wish for no rules. They don’t like God’s rules. But aren’t God’s rules made for our good? It shows that they have no concern for anyone except themselves. Can you expect these people to be good rulers?
But the Psalmist looks up on high and sees the Lord laughing (and that is where I got my title from). God knows that their plans will come to nothing. God was saying that when he installs his in Jerusalem, then their rebellion will come to an end.
How can this be an encouragement to us?
First off, we see that the Lord is enthroned in Heaven and on high, showing him as all-powerful and all-mighty. Who can stand against the Lord? In fact, he is so powerful that no one can separate his children from His love (Romans 8:37-39). We see that the Gospel has been spreading for 2000 years and it shows no signs of stopping. (That reminds me of Gamaliel, who advised the Pharisees to leave the disciples alone, saying that their message will fail if it was human invention. His speech “persuaded” them and gave the disciples a “get outta here” beating. Read about it in Acts 5:33-40.)
Then we see that the Lord is laughing. He sees that their way is foolish and will come to nothing. Remember you laughed at someone when they did something stupid? Not that I approve of your reaction, but that’s exactly what God is doing. God has clearly shown his power, but the wicked go ahead and build their Tower of Babel. He’s practically saying, “What are they thinking?”
Then he says, “What ARE they thinking?!?!?” The thing is, God is angry. He will terrify them. He will say, “My kingdom is coming down to earth and my Son will crush you with an iron scepter.”
But our God is so gracious that he has given us time to repent. This invitation is not just extended to the rulers of the people, but also the people who are under rule. We have time to turn to him until his wrath is unleashed. We don’t know when it will be too late to repent, so now is the day of salvation and now is the day of his favor is poured out upon the peoples (2 Corinthians 6:2).
But those who put their hope and trust in the Lord will be saved.
Blessed are the righteous, for they know the truth and will not experience the full wrath of God.
Hello again! I’m so happy you finished reading my post, and, boy, do I hope you liked it!
