Hello, there! I’m Christopher, which you should have known if you saw my cute little green logo. So, let me not distract you from the following post. I hope you like it! I’d love to hear your thoughts after you’re done reading it! Enjoy!
Hello, everyone! It’s me, Christopher, of course. I’m writing this the day I’m posting this because I’ve been putting this off and whatnot.
In ten days, I’m celebrating nine months of this awesome website! And I can’t believe it’s been that long! It’s been a wonderful journey with its share of “hardships.” I never really suffered or anything like that, but there’s been a few stumbling blocks along the way. One of them is engagement activity.
All you wonderful people are awesome! And I know some of you consistently read my posts (but only a few). Those I do know who have done so are that Guitar With Arms and the mime who isn’t a mime. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my posts and such
The thing is that, since the beginning, I have promoted the fact that I always have something on Fridays. It’s like Messy Mondays is always on Mondays and no other day. Yet, no one really seems to get the memo. It’s almost like half of the Blimey Cow fans watch the latest episode on Wednesday. I know I’m not “Mr. Big” or anything, but I don’t see anyone really coming on Fridays.
So let me (angrily . . . just kidding) shake my fist and say “POSTS ON FRIDAYS!”
Guys, I have places all over my website that says “Posts On Fridays,” but all you forget what day that is. So, I am here to say that it’s the day before Saturday. And if you forgot which day Saturday is, then you are probably doing school six days a week (if not, seven).
That reminds me of something, but I’ll get to that later.
And that reminds me of another thing that I’ll say quickly. I do post at other times during the week (currently on Tuesdays). So come on those days too, but if you don’t have time for two posts a week, then come on Fridays.
So, I’ve noticed that active engagement on threads increase traffic and directs others to read an old post which they forgot to read (or the new people who haven’t heard of my site). Such is the case with my famous “It’s A YouTube Video – Blimey Cow’s Four Relationship Clichés (That Just Don’t Work).” People keep congratulating me for reaching 1,000 visitors when I have passed over 4,000. Funny, huh?
But the thing is that that page is driving great traffic. Many people are discovering my website because of off-topic conversations and engagement. (For example, one devotion I did, “Talk About Suffering,” to date, has practically no comments related to the post, yet there’s over 200 comments between ONLY me and MFJ.
So, I was thinking, “Most of this on-going engagement seems to happen by chance. It was quite a Big Bang. What if I did something about this so that I could possibly have engagement on every page? This gets really frustrating that I almost get no comments on any of the reviews I post.”
And I got it.
Wow. That’s it. Questions.
You see, it all starts with a question, I believe.
Remember SOGgie’s “True Modesty” thread? Well, everyone was asking “Is this modest?” “Is this not modest?” And the original thread has over 1,100 comments (but it’s closed, just to let you know)! It all starts with a question.
I mentioned that my reviews don’t really get any comments. Well, one of my first reviews, “Advent Film Group’s Come What May,” proposed a question. What happened? Over 100 comments. And people are discovering that I wrote that post.
Now, I am adding to the end of almost each post some questions. This should help spark more engagement activity among the commenters and myself. I will be asking some questions at the end of each post, and it is ultimately your duty to make that post succeed by answering those questions and replying to others. I am doing my job. I reply to practically every comment. The thing is that you need to do your job.
Now, I’m not forcing you, but I think this will work.
The thing is that the questions on its own won’t do anything. If no one comes to my site, then the questions are pointless.
And don’t be afraid to ask questions yourself! That will help a lot! Questions that I may have never considered. Questions that will get others talking.
Now, I will say that not every post will explode because you answer the questions. No; they have a more likely chance of exploding if you do your part.
There are posts where I have asked questions or people asked questions, but it didn’t explode. But the thing is that they did get a good number of comments for a bit. I can remember at least one where the conversation went on for a bit and where at least one person commented as a result (really because of my ridiculous Disqus profile).
Recap of what I said before (there’s more?): come to read the posts on Fridays and ask and answer questions at the end of each post (and reply to others).
As (only a few) some of you may know, I’m working on editing my old posts. No joke.
It’s going quite slow (procrastination) and only three posts are officially edited, but it’s coming along. The thing is that not all my posts look consistent. Some posts have “next/previous post” buttons. Some posts have the square thumbnail. And some posts are plain oddballs. And all have their share of grammatical mistakes.
So I am trying to fix that.
The only problem is that they’re old posts and almost no one is taking notice . . . except me and my helpers (everyone needs help, right?).
So I am announcing that right to you all!
So, on my home page, I will have three thumbnails, one trending post, one nostalgia post, and one freshly edited post. So I encourage you to check them out (PLEASE!) whenever you can! They will be updated without notice and, hopefully, frequently.
Even though almost no one sees the differences, there are people who still do see old posts. And there will come a time when I will be really showing off old posts (especially at Christmas time). So I want them fresh and ready!
Quick shout out to my helpers: Laura Carrot, Lydia . . . that last name is tough, and Madeleine Grace! Y’all are awesome helping me with this! You all didn’t have to, but you wanted to. I thank you so much!
Now, with Peanut coming, I will have to spend less time on the internet. The thing is that my dad works all day on Monday and Tuesdays. So those days I will have to (most likely) stay off the internet. And I’m already off the computer on Sundays! So, in America land, that’s Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesdays I will be off. Y’all only really see me on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. That’s tough on me and you. So that means that I’ll have to either limit myself to one post a week or do Wednesdays and Fridays (or schedule the Tuesdays post on Saturdays). I’m warning y’all ahead of time.
I do want to say (if you don’t understand, just play along) that I have finally pretty much emptied out my Word document! All there’s left is really eight pages on comments on people’s posts. Hopefully I don’t have to go back to the Word document as I did again.
One thing I wanna say. On August 2nd (or August 1st for you all), I dealt with my first bout of spam. “Adrian” posted 638 comments on one thread, and the majority of them were blank (two contained an abbreviation that included language). Of course, I don’t want that to happen again. But I am getting a bit worried. What if that happens when I’m off during those several days and no one’s there to stop it?
So I’m considering adding another moderator. I just want to play it safe. So if you are looking for something to do, let me know. Now, this is not a final decision, but a thought. I am getting a little worried, so I might do it. If interested, let me know.
Now, let me talk about my audio drama.
Honestly, I haven’t really been working on it.
So, guys, please pray for me. Less time on the internet will mean more time for me to work on it. So please pray that I’ll be productive! If you wanna help, you can say so down below, and we’ll see if I have anything you can do!
Again, prayer would be the biggest help you can give! So please do so!
Well, this month, on Fridays, are reviews of really great books! So, please stay tuned!
God bless you everyone!
PS: One more note . . . or two. Do you see that sidebar? I did a lot to make it look nice! Those slideshows, those feeds, everything. So, when you can, please use it! (Please note that the categories are not fully updated, so I don’t advise you use those; use the posts list instead.) Also, I promote a lot of people (and will be updating the recommendations page). I don’t really see any results (most of the time). I only try to promote trustworthy people and stuff. So, if you can, please check them out! Especially ApologetiX!
Oh, wow, another thing. I am thinking about having an email newsletter thingy. Whatcha think? I’ll update you on the recent posts, highlight a few old ones, and give you some behind the scenes stuff!
Hello again! I’m so happy you finished reading my post, and, boy, do I hope you liked it!
